Start of the Kitesurfing Season

Summer is finally here! Professionally, this year has had some crazy ups and down’s for me. I was out of action for 2 months with my gear being stolen and insurance battles. That ordeal really set me back and I struggled to get back into the right head space with regards to my career. Photography is not one of the easiest careers to make successful and it’s taken me a long time to figure out my style and exactly where I want to go with my work. I think as photographers we’ve all been through those ‘tear-your-hair-out’ moments where you feel like something’s just not working and you lose your creativity. This year has been one of those for me. I felt like I had no direction and was really questioning the choices I had made with my career. When I’m in this space, I find the best thing to do is look up other sports photographers to spark some inspiration. Instagram is one of my favourite places to go to for this. I always go and look at the accounts of some of my favourite photographers and it always gets me amped to get out there and pick up my camera.

None of us become photographers thinking we’re going to make millions. For myself, success is when I show my work to someone else and they say ‘wow!’ I am incredibly blessed to work with some amazing kite surfers, surfers, wakeboarders, brands and editors. Hard work and perseverance does pay off. That’s why I’m so stoked to be a part of a new Kitesurfing magazine called The Kite Mag. Available at Liquid Force Cape Town or you can buy a copy on iTunes.
